How Pickle Shot works

Launch monitors are brilliant at measuring. They are less brilliant at telling you what the measurements mean. Pickle Shot fills that gap in three steps.

1Set your target

Tell Pickle Shot your current handicap and the one you want. Say you play off 22 and are chasing a 15. Pickle Shot loads the typical numbers for a 15 handicapper, club by club.

2Map every shot

Your sessions land on one dashboard. Every shot is mapped against the target for that club, and your averages build up over time so one bad range session does not wreck the picture.

3Fix one thing

Pickle Shot finds the biggest gap between you and your target and says it plainly: "Your 7 iron is landing short. Fix first: centre strike." Then it gives you something to work on.

What Pickle Shot looks at

  • Carry. How far the ball flies before it lands. The honest distance.
  • Ball speed. The engine of every shot, and a big clue about strike quality.
  • Launch angle. Too low or too high both cost carry.
  • Spin rate. Too much and the ball balloons, too little and it will not hold a green.
  • Dispersion. How far left and right your shots scatter. Straight beats long.
  • Smash factor. Ball speed divided by club speed. It tells you how well you found the middle.

Which of these you get depends on your launch monitor. More numbers mean sharper insights.

What Pickle Shot is not

  • Not a simulator. Keep using your sim software for virtual rounds. Pickle Shot is about getting better, not playing Pebble Beach from the garage.
  • Not a replacement for a coach. It is a way to turn practice into progress between lessons. Coach access is on the roadmap.
  • Not magic. You still have to hit the balls. Pickle Shot just makes sure you are hitting them on purpose.
