Rapsodo MLM2 Pro

According to Rapsodo, the MLM2 Pro measures eight metrics and calculates seven more:

  • Measured: ball speed, club speed, launch angle, launch direction, spin rate, spin axis, club path and angle of attack.
  • Calculated: smash factor, carry, total distance, side carry, descent angle, apex and shot type.
  • Spin numbers need a Titleist or Callaway RPT ball, and the full metric set comes with Rapsodo's Premium membership.
  • Works indoors and outdoors.

The original Rapsodo Mobile Launch Monitor pairs with an iPhone or iPad. Rapsodo lists:

  • Measured: ball speed, club speed, launch angle and launch direction.
  • Also shown: carry, total distance, smash factor, side carry, apex, shot type and spin rate.
  • Fewer numbers than the MLM2 Pro, but carry, ball speed, launch and side carry already tell a big story.

Five tips for cleaner numbers from your MLM2 Pro

Garbage in, garbage out. Whatever app you use, these make your data more trustworthy.

  1. Give it room. Rapsodo says indoor use needs about 14 feet in total: around 8 feet from the ball to the net, and the unit 6.5 to 8.5 feet behind the ball. Cramped setups cost you readings.
  2. Use RPT balls if you want spin. Rapsodo only shows spin rate and spin axis with a Titleist or Callaway RPT ball.
  3. Keep the setup identical. Same mat, same distance, same alignment every time, so a change in the numbers is a change in you.
  4. Hit enough shots per club. One flushed 7 iron is a highlight, not a stat. Averages over a decent sample tell the truth.
  5. Practise with a target. Hitting 50 balls at nothing in particular is exercise. Hitting them at a number is practice. That is the whole idea of Pickle Shot.
