What Rapsodo's shot tracer actually does
The MLM2 Pro has two cameras and a Doppler radar. According to Rapsodo:
- Shot Vision captures down-the-line swing video in slow motion "complete with shot-tracer technology". You see your swing and the ball's path drawn from behind, the same view the unit has.
- Impact Vision captures impact and the first part of the ball flight at 240 frames per second, played back as slow-motion clips. This is where you see strike and face contact, not just ball flight.
- You can pair a phone or tablet as a second camera angle, for example face-on, alongside the unit's own view.

One historical note: when Golf Monthly reviewed the MLM2 Pro in July 2023, Impact Vision was only available when reviewing shots, not live during a session. Rapsodo updates the app regularly, so how and when the video shows may differ now.
Does the original Rapsodo MLM have a tracer?
Yes. Rapsodo lists "swing replay with shot trace technology" for the original MLM, using your iPhone's camera. It is a single angle from behind. The MLM is iPhone and iPad only.
Tracer vs data: what the video is good for
A shot tracer is great for seeing shape (draw, fade, slice, hook) and height. It is brilliant for social media and it makes the brain happy. But the line on the screen is the result, not the reason.
The launch monitor numbers explain the why:

If you do not own a launch monitor, a tracer app turns your phone into a video tool. These do not measure ball speed or spin. They track the ball in the video and draw its path. Here is what we found on the official app pages on 27 September 2026:

Tips for a clean trace on any app
- Use a tripod. Handheld wobble confuses the tracking.
- Film down the line (from behind) for the classic TV look, or face-on if you are checking strike and body movement.
- Good light, plain background. A white ball against a busy background is harder to track.
- Frame the whole flight. Leave space above the golfer for the ball to climb.
- Slow motion helps. Higher frame rates give the app more points to join up.
Do you need a shot tracer or a launch monitor?
If you just want great-looking swing videos, a tracer app is cheap and fun. If you want to actually know your carry distances, why the ball curves and what to fix, you need launch monitor data.
